Situated in a quiet village on the charente/dordogne border, the cottage consists of an open-plan living area with a well equipped recently fitted kitchen with gas cooker, fridge and washing machine, dining area, lounge area with quality sofa and armchair, tv and music centre. Double bedroom with double bed and ample wardrobe and drawer storage, (bed linen and towel hire available) ensuite shower, handwash basin and wc. the cottage has private gardens to front and rear. The front garden is south facing and is screened from the lane by 6ft hedging and contains a large bbq and ample garden furniture and sun loungers for relaxing and soaking up the sun. We have two cycles available for hire for touring the local area. chenaud is a quiet but not isolated village with a restaurant and bar, post office and good local shop that can supply most of the basic products you would require. there is a fine example of romanesque church just around the corner from the cottage. There are nice walks from the cottage down to the river (la dronne). up-river or 5km by road is st aulaye a charming small town with good restaurants and bars and a wonderful riverside beach area with a good swimming area and riverside café’s. down-river or 3km canoe’s are available for hire for river exploration. the nearest supermarket is in chalais which is about a 10 minute drive away, there is also a good market there on monday’s and a fine chateau which is open to the public and well worth a visit. to the east lies the town of riberac which has several large supermarkets and an excellent market on fridays. Beyond riberac lies perigueux and brantome both towns are well worth a visit. Perigueux is a large town which is dominated by the magnificent cathedral of st front and has lots of shopping area’s and pavement cafes. Brantome is known as the “venice of perigord” it has lots of riverside restaurants and narrow medieval streets with lots of art galleries. To the south of chenaud there is the fanous town of st emilion whch is a lovely medieval town with cobbled streets and squares and of course the world famous wine houses. to the west is the atlantic coast resorts of royan and st george de didonne with their beautiful sandy beaches and lots of excellent fish restaurants. A few miles up the coast is the historic town of la rochelle. There are lots of good restaurants around the harbour serving the local sea produce.
